Scarborough in North East England on the North Sea coast was established in 966 as Skarðaborg by the Vikings.
Since 1253 the Scarborough Fair was yearly held for more than 500 years. It was a trade fair, which began in August
and lasted six weeks til the End of September. The fair was visited from merchants throughout Europe
and is the topic of an English folk song (sung among others by Simon & Garfunkel).
Today Scarborough is a holiday town with nice sandy beaches, but unfortunately quite cold sea.

Scarborough im Nordosten Englands an der Nordseeküste wurde 966 als Skarðaborg durch die Wikinger gegründet.
Seit 1253 wurde der Jahrmarkt Scarborough Fair über 500 Jahre hinweg jährlich veranstaltet. Er war eine Handelsmesse,
die im August begann und sechs Wochen Ende September dauerte. Der Jahrmarkt zog Kaufleute aus
ganz Europa an und wird in einem englischen Volkslied (u.a. von Simon & Garfunkel) bis heute besungen.
Heute ist Scarborough ein Ferienort mit schönen Sandstränden, aber leider recht kaltem Meerwasser.
