Anchorage liegt im südlichen-zentralen Teil Alaskas am Ende des Cook Inlets, einer Bucht des Golf von Alaska, auf einer vom Knik Arm im Norden und dem Turnagain Arm im Süden gebildeten Halbinsel. Mit fast 300.000 Einwohnern ist Anchorage die mit Abstand größte Stadt Alaskas sowie dessen wichtigstes Industriezentrum. Die Chugach Mountains am Stadtrand sind bis zu 1600 m hoch.  -
Anchorage is located in the south-central portion of Alaska at the terminus of the Cook Inlet a bay of the the Gulf of Alaska, on a peninsula formed by the Knik Arm to the north and the Turnagain Arm to the south. With almost 300,000 inhabitants Anchorage is by far the largest city in Alaska as well as its most important industrial center. The Chugach Mountains on the outskirts are up to 5250 ft high.
